WHAT'S NEW

It’s been awhile since we have had an update about what we have been doing in Haiti recently.

This May was the first opportunity to travel to Haiti since we were there last March. The political tensions were running high as the country was without an official Government since the overthrow of Aristide in February of 2004.

Violence, robberies and kidnappings were an everyday occurrence in the Port au Prince area. This caused us to cancel some planned trips and hindered us from visiting until after the elections. Elections finally occurred this past February and things have quieted down considerably.

A group of four board members were finally able to visit our various projects to see first hand the progress that is being made.

It was great to visit the school in Pont Sonde and see the children in their classrooms. Some were taking the National standard tests for moving up to the next grade level.

We were also able to help distribute the hot lunches they were receiving that day. Our hope is to expand this hot lunch program so they can receive a hot meal 5 days a week. Currently our funds only allow for 2 meals a week.

We have about 100 education scholarship opportunities available at this school in Pont Sonde. Maybe you or someone you know would like to fund a scholarship for one of these children.

High School Student finds sponsors for
80 Haitian children to receive scholarships.

Eighty children will now have the opportunity to receive an education because of the efforts of a high school student who made education her top priority.

Rachel Windholz, a senior at Kennard-Dale High School in southern Pennsylvania took on this challenge as part of her required senior project.

By speaking at churches and with students and teachers at her school, she was able to acquire funding for about 80 children to receive an education. She also raised additional funding to buy books to be used in the schools.

In any society, education offers opportunity. Without it children are destined to a life of impoverished despair. Your gift truly CHANGES their future.
